Food Processing – Training Materials Available!
Finding level-entry workers for small scale food processors has just got easier, thanks to a project that makes meaningful employment for adults with developmental delays (and others with literacy challenges) much more accessible. Training materials that were recently developed to reflect national Food Processing standards have been adapted into plain language using lots of graphics to assist employers with training needs of their employees with developmental disabilities. People with a variety of barriers to employment (and their employment counsellors) may use them for training.
The project was conducted with guidance from the Nanaimo Association for Community Living, the Small Scale Food Processors Association, several self-advocates, and other employment service providers and small scale food processors in the Islands region.
This project was funded by a Canada-British Columbia Labour Market Development Agreement, through the Job Creation Project, Employment and Labour Market Services Division, Ministry of Social Development and the Victoria Foundation. The project was hosted by the Vancouver Island Heritage Foodservice Coop.
